What is NLP?
NLP is the study of how we as human beings process the information provided by the world around us into thoughts, feelings and ultimately into subjective experiences. In the same way as each person watching a film will, at the end of it, have a different perspective on the meaning and content of the film, each of us process our thoughts in a different way, based on our life experiences. By understanding these processes thoroughly we gain the ability to change the way we experience our life, allowing us to see with fresh eyes why we do what we do, what we are naturally good at and where there is room for improvement.
Of course, strengths and weaknesses will be different for everyone. The comprehensive system of NLP techniques allows us to focus on making the changes that will be most effective, and this is why NLP is known for enabling truly rapid results.
How NLP Works
NLP offers a comprehensive system of how we, as human beings, process our thoughts and feelings, to choose how we interact with the world. Fundamental to the techniques of NLP is the belief that you, as a unique individual and the expert in your own life, hold the potential to find the ways forward that are perfectly appropriate for you. NLP therefore offers each person new ways of looking at who you are, and why you do what you do, allowing new insights into what sort of changes may work best for you.
Essentially NLP will help you to identify your existing strengths and build on them while helping you to see exactly what it is you struggle with and what you can do to improve things.
Like all systems of self development, NLP will enable you to use more flexible approaches to problem solving, get better results and become a happier individual.
What is NLP used for?
NLP is an extremely flexible system which lends itself to a variety of applications, from team dynamics and business settings to personal development, health, well being and therapeutic uses.
The success of NLP in all of these settings is due to it's effectiveness in helping individuals overcome the obstacles that have previously held them back. We all hold a very individual set of beliefs and values that define each of us as individuals. These beliefs and values are built into our psyches from a young age, and we add to, and change them as we go through life - as a result of our life experiences. Often we are unaware of what these beliefs and values are - because they are so intrinsic to us, we may not be able to see them, though we can identify them by the emotional reactions they spark off in us. Most of the time this is fine, until it becomes obvious to us that something is holding us back from achieving something we have wanted for a long time. Whenever we notice that we are unable to make a change in our lives, despite a lot of thought or effort, it's a sure sign that there's a belief or value holding us back.
NLP provides excellent ways of unearthing deeply held beliefs and values, and once you can see them it's easy to identify which ones you want to keep and which ones you'd like to change. For many people the process of looking at their deepest beliefs and values is enough to change the ones that aren't working well for them. For others it may take a bit more application, but basically once you can see what's really going on, long wished for changes become possible.
NLP + Hypnotherapy used together provide a way of enabling a person to make big changes a lot faster than you might expect.
